Negotiations with the EU/ Rama: We are not in a position to slow down the

Prime Minister Edi Rama, in a conversation with students, stated that the pace of Albania's negotiations with the European Union is not slowing down.

Rama said that this idea can be ascertained from the media, in which he said there is unverified information. He also mentioned two cases where, according to him, a slowdown in the integration process of a country into the European Union could occur.

"This is an idea established by media reports, they have unverified information. We are not in conditions where there is a slowdown. The report of a non-member country goes through two floors. The first floor is the European Commission, the result of the elections. The EU government is the only government that does not have a single square meter of its own because they belong to the member countries. This government also has a territory that it oversees, which is that of relations with those who want to become members. The European Commission has 35 thousand people who work in all areas and some of them deal only with countries that want to enter the EU.

Since we are a candidate country and intended to start negotiations, they also gave us tasks. The Commission is a very objective pedagogical body and does not deal with politics. Then every year it reports to the Council, the second floor where the leaders of the 27 member states are. They meet to make a decision. The Commission says to open negotiations and there are 27 in the Council, and if one says no, the negotiations do not open. This was agreed when it was established and continues today. We have been proposed three times to open negotiations and three times we have been rejected. We have been rejected because a member state did not want us, and there was a problem created by Albanians, a political problem. In many European countries, immigrants became the enemy. This is how the process slows down. The process slows down either when the country that will join the EU starts making mistakes and puts itself in an unfavorable position and the EC starts raising reservations or the politics of another country starts raising reservations. Today we are not in these conditions" , said Rama. /CNA
