In a television appearance, former Minister of Finance, Arben Malaj, commented on the way in which Edi Rama has changed the Socialist Party after taking over the party's leadership.

Malaj said he had a heated argument with Rama, emphasizing that the SP cannot function as a military unit and criticizing Rama's use of wiretapping devices and connections to secret services.

He added that Rama followed a strategy where the modernization of the party came after taking power, unlike his idea that the SP had to be modernized before coming to power.

Former Minister Malaj said that Rama has made a pact with Sali Berisha on constitutional changes, consolidating his power and changing the rules of political rotation.

"While the SP, after 2005, when Rama came, he changed 100% the way he would organize and lead the SP. My first debate with him was that the SP cannot be a military unit. Because Rama as soon as he came to power, he started using these eavesdropping devices, I don't know why he is so in love with secret services. We have had a debate and it has not been easy. Rotation happens, but not like in Albania where you have the first mandate, have more points in the second mandate and more votes in the 3rd mandate and declare yourself the king prime minister in the 4th mandate.
