Race for Tirana/ Krasniqi: Florjan Binaj's candidacy with the opposition is

Political scientist Afrim Krasniqi made several comments today regarding candidate Florjan Binaj, as a name for the Tirana Municipality elections.

Invited to A2CNN, Krasniqi described this candidacy, which is supported by the opposition, as forced.

Krasniqi said that a challenging candidate was needed for this race, as there is no opportunity for debate.

"I would not have wanted the gentleman to be a candidate. I would like him to be the highest-ranking official in Tirana. Or if the gentleman were a candidate, he should have the highest-ranking position in Tirana in order to hold responsibility and organize the structures."

 It makes no sense for a party to look for someone from outside when it has 100,000 members and say, "Come on, I need a figurehead." A meritocracy mechanism must be created that creates balance and public figures.

"In this specific case, the opposition put forward a forced candidate rather than a candidacy that seeks to challenge, also because these elections are not creating opportunities for debate," Krasniqi said. /CNA
