"A compromise with the DP is needed"/ Krasniqi: Reducing the number of MPs requires a change to the Constitution

Political scientist Afrim Krasniqi emphasized today that reducing the number of MPs, as proposed a few days ago by Prime Minister Edi Rama, necessarily requires changes to the Constitution.

Invited to A2CNN, Krasniqi stated that to realize this idea, the Socialists will need to reach a compromise with the opposition.

Krasniqi added that such an agreement will be difficult, as each political party will express its own claims.

"I liked the Prime Minister's idea of ??reducing the number of MPs. In order to implement the constitutional change to change the number of MPs, the Constitution must be changed. The PS has 83 plus 3 of the PSD, 86 mandates. Even if it secures 2-3 informal mandates, it cannot reach the required number of 94. It is forced to compromise with the DP. And to compromise as we did in 2008, there will also be demands from the other side. And I fear the day when the parties will meet because each party will demand something and it may happen that the result of the constitutional changes may not give us a better democracy than the one we have today. The moment you say that you are in favor of reducing the number of MPs, you must also make the offer because you do not have the votes for this," said Krasniqi./CNA
