Directors of the Municipality in handcuffs/ Teliti: Veliaj must resign

The specialist of Economic Affairs in the Democratic Party, and at the same time the vice president of the Municipal Council of Tirana, Dorian Teliti, in a reaction to CNA TV with the journalist Fabjona Pasho, has commented on the arrest of the directors of Erion Veliaj, in connection with the "5D" file.

"A well-organized structure, that although they were employees in the Municipality of Tirana and received salaries in dependent institutions, they did not have the mind to do the work, but how and how to benefit from the funds of the Municipality, the funds of UKT, OSHEE or even strategic investor status.

There are 29 tender procedures that have come out, in which this famous company 5D is involved. It can happen once that it slips to the superiors, it can happen twice, if they are so skilled and the superiors do not find out, but that it happens in 29 cases and that the superiors do not know anything and that their staff, in in the name of one they eat pears and in the name of the other they eat figs, without the superiors knowing.

It is clearly implied that this happened with the knowledge of the mayor, the prime minister, etc. What has come before them, it seems they have put it in their pocket. First, those who have been caught, are under prison or house arrest, constitute the main headquarters of Erion Veliaj. If we were in a normal country, with a functioning democracy, a mayor who has run away with the vast majority of his staff, who has them under arrest, before justice, it would be normal for him to resign.

The Mayor must appear in front of the citizens and maintain his stance, distance himself if he does not feel included. It seems that he cannot distance himself, because a part of the contracts belong to the Municipality of Tirana, and the contracts are signed by the head of the Contracting Authority, who is Erion Veliaj himself. Their contracts are on the one hand signed by the administrator of the 5D company and on the other, by Erion Veliaj."

Teliti also commented on the attempt of some media close to Veliaj to downplay the event and to consider the arrested as former directors.

"We know that an overwhelming part of the Albanian media is not free, it gives truncated news. A part of the news, when talking about the prime minister or the mayor, does not give at all. The representatives of the opposition react every day against the various injustices that we see, they don't give a damn.

As for the non-reactions of the SP, they also have the war within them. They eat each other's heads. One part is upset about what is happening, another part is pleased. They don't want to do this part of the debate in the media, they continue to do it under the rugs of politics."

Teliti has called on SPAK to take the investigation to the end, to bring to justice everyone involved in this corrupt affair./ CNA
