Debates in the Council of Mandates/ Ahmetaj's lawyers, facing questions

DP MPs, Gazment Bardhi and Ervin Salianji, have addressed some questions to the lawyers of former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj, Henrik Ligori and Ardian Visha.

Bardhi asked the lawyers in the Council of Mandates about Ahmetaj's wealth, about acquaintances with Mirel Mërtir and Klodian Zoto, as well as about trips.

"If your client would have been present, cooperated and faced justice, we could have been understanding for more time for defense. But your client fled the country on the day his arrest was sought. You criticized the prosecutor's office for extending the investigation starting in 2004. This type of investigation into the wealth of officials should be done for all politicians. The charges are not political in nature, but for corruption and abuse of power. Why are you against the control of wealth and the scope of the investigation since 2004? Do you have proof of the legality of this property? Why did Ahmetaj lie about the relationship with Mirel Mërtir and Klodian Zoto? Does it mean that Damian Gjiknuri was also on the same trips as Ahmetaj with these two people? Do you confirm this?", he said.

On the other hand, Ervin Salianji asked Ligor and Viša if the open case for Ahmetaj is a political attack by the majority.

"Lawyer, in your speech you said that we should guard against judicial protagonism, you said that there is unprofessional language in the relationship, that there is an insult that the prosecution behaved like the Gestapo, etc...

Meanwhile, sticking to the opinion that we are not a court and that the guarantee of immunity is a guarantee for political attacks, I am asking you after you said that your client is politically vulnerable, do you think that he is being attacked politically by the majority?", emphasized Salianji.

Lawyer Visha responded by saying that "there is no justice in SPAK".

But the deputy speaker of the Assembly, Ermonela Felaj, responded with questions.

"What influence can SPAK prosecutors have when they have passed the vetting?" Felaj asked the lawyers./ CNA.al
