Bushati and Kapllani in "Public Square": We are the sons of the
Ditmir Bushati

In the sons of transition, Ditmir Bushati in his Podcast "Public Square" conducted a conversation with the writer and public intellectual Gazmend Kapllani.

Bushati and Kapllani discussed together the challenges of Albanians in relation to immigration, past and present borders, the relation of literature to history, the new generation and its relation to reading, knowledge and technology.

Kapllani, the author of an article in which he underlines that "courage is needed to live in Albania", says that one of our biggest problems is the fact that "we still haven't managed to build a functional state, where the state serves the citizens".

According to him, our problem is not only technological, but it is the value system, the relationship we build with those people who have conveyed knowledge and values ??to the nation. "Who progresses more in our society, those who are cultured and read or those who do not read and need knowledge, or those who receive a fake diploma".

If we respond to this farce, he continues, we will be able to face big challenges because we are a small country and the turmoil in the global ocean can turn into a tsunami for us.
The relationship between knowledge and technology is another issue discussed by Bushati and Kapllani. According to them, technology plays a tremendous role in human development and progress.

"Now we are on the threshold of a very big technological transition for which we do not yet know what the consequences will be in the field of knowledge or the economy. Even the various political processes that we see, the contradictions, populism, authoritarianism also come from the anxiety that has been created as a result of the deep changes that this technological revolution can bring."

Focusing on the immigration challenge, which has greatly affected our society and has turned into a wide debate, Kapllani focuses on how the West and the East experience this phenomenon. According to him, the easterners perceive immigration as an existential threat to the country, while in the west it is seen as a threat.

Kapllani heads the chair of Albanian studies at DePaul University in Chicago and in this podcast he discussed his experience with "Generation Z", for which he says that although the source of information has changed, the interest in some topics remains the same and some things remain constant.
