"The only alternative offered by the regime was to leave the country"/

The Secretary General of the Democratic Party, Flamur Noka, spoke at the meeting held in Brescia, Italy, with Albanians of the Diaspora. Noka emphasized that these 12 years of Edi Rama's regime caused the mass exodus of Albanians, while adding that enabling the Diaspora to vote has been one of the main objectives for the DP.

"It is a privilege to be among you here today, a great emotion to convey to you the heartfelt greetings from the President of the Democratic Party, the leader of the opposition, Professor, Doctor Sali Berisha. We may be the only nation that has been dispersed like no other in these years, we may be the only nation in Europe that has a diaspora twice as many as there are inhabitants in the country of origin.

In these 12 years, we feel with pain and see with terrible regret how the alternative that a regime offered to Albanians was flight and departure. Why, our country lacks opportunities, our country is a blessed country, a country that has sea, mountains, a country that has wealth and resources, but our country unfortunately fell into the clutches of the mafia. This is more serious than any landslide.

This also explains your concern, what you carry here every day. You experience the troubles of your family in Albania every day, you work for yourself, but you also keep your people alive in Albania. And this makes us feel proud of you, for maintaining the connection with the homeland.

We are here today to create a new, important connection with you. We, the Democrats, are here today to tell you that finally, thanks to the persistence of the DP, the battle fought, thanks to the pressure, the right to vote for you, the diaspora throughout the world, was made possible.

"We are proud that this initiative of the DP was crowned with success, because it is impossible for a nation, when more than half of its population is abroad, not to be given the right of that nation to fully exercise its right to vote and the right to elect its government with sovereignty," Noka concluded. /CNA
