Protest in front of Tirana Municipality/ Police "shield" for Veliaj

A day earlier, the opposition held its 42nd protest in front of the Tirana Municipality against the corruption that has gripped this institution and against the mayor under investigation by SPAK, Erion Veliaj, against whom there are 4 criminal charges.

The police seem to have turned into a shield for Veliaj, referring to the Tirana Prosecutor's Office the opposition exponents who held the protest in front of the Tirana Municipality.

According to the police, these citizens, in collaboration with other yet unidentified persons, have carried out an illegal protest by blocking the road, obstructing the free movement of citizens, and disrupting public order and peace.

"On 17.01.2025, the materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance, General Jurisdiction of Tirana, for citizens DT, AK, KB, EE and TB, after these citizens, in collaboration with other still unidentified persons, held an illegal protest at the Municipality of Tirana, blocking the road, preventing the free movement of citizens, and disrupting public order and peace", the police announced./ CNA
