1200 students in the Tirana University Tournament/ Manastirliu: We will expand

The Tirana University Tournament opened today, with the participation of 1,200 students from 30 universities in the country. Students will compete in various sports disciplines such as volleyball, basketball and football, for girls and boys, reflecting the commitment to promoting sports, the values ??of honesty and healthy competition.

The opening ceremony, organized by the Albanian Federation of University Sports, was attended by the Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, the President of the European University Sports Federation, Adam Roczek, the President of the Albanian University Sports Federation, Besnik Veliu, the presidents of the University Federations of Israel and Kosovo, the President of the Albanian Football Federation, Armando Duka, as well as students, lecturers and other guests.

 The Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, in her speech emphasized the importance of involving young people in sports.

"I am excited to participate in the start of the Tirana University Tournament, a tournament that brings together 30 universities across Albania, and I congratulate the Albanian Federation of University Sports for working to expand the spirit of sports in universities."

We started with 6 participating universities and now we are involving 30 universities and more than 1200 students will be part of this tournament, competing in volleyball, basketball and also football. We are also proud to have become part of the European International Football Tournament for university sports”, said Manastirliu.

The organization of this tournament is part of a broader national strategy that starts in pre-university education, through the "Sports Teams in Schools" program, where over 12 thousand students are involved, and to continue expanding the sports movement to universities. Minister Manastirliu said that the Government is committed to promoting sports movement for all ages.

 "The Ministry of Education and Sports remains committed to supporting sports federations, to supporting the University Sports Federation because we strongly believe that sports movement, that sports for all ages is a key factor not only for personal health, but also increases team spirit, respect, discipline and also promotes healthy living. Therefore, we will continue to support sports for all ages, continuing to expand the sports movement in schools and also in universities and where this is a real example of our vision, but also of our support year after year", - said Manastirliu./CNA
