Kristaq Dhamo, well-known Albanian filmmaker

Kristaq Dhamo, the well-known Albanian cinematographer, closed his eyes forever today.

The great Albanian director left behind a great wealth in Albanian art. Dhamo was born on April 20, 1933, in Fier.

After graduating from the artistic lyceum "Jordan Misja", he continued his studies at the Higher Institute of Cinematography in Budapest, Hungary.

When he returned to his homeland, Dhamo started working at the Film Studio "New Albania", where he made the first Albanian feature film "Tana", in 1958. He presented the latter as a thesis in Budapest.

Së bashku me Gëzim Erebarën xhiruan filmat dokumentarë: “Ne u dashuruam me Shqipërinë” (1959); “Ansambli i Këngëve dhe Valleve” (1960).

Filmi i tij i parë që bëri jehonë ishte “Vitet e para” (1965), i cili u nderua me Çmimin e Republikës. Më pas, shkëlqeu me filmat: Mëngjese lufte (1971); “Nga mesi i errësirës” (1978); “Qortimet e vjeshtës” (1981), etj.

Për shumë vite, ai ka qenë drejtor artistik në Film Studio. Dhamo ka dhënë një ndihmë të çmuar në përgatitjen e studentëve të rinj të kinematografisë, me organizimin e disa kurseve profesionale.

Në 1979, atij i është dhënë titulli "Artist i merituar" dhe në vitin 1987 është nderuar me titullin "Artist i Popullit".

At the 11th Albanian film festival, in 2000, he was honored with the career award. In July 2021, he was awarded the high title "Honour of the Nation"./ BA - CNA.al
