5-month-old baby dies inside car in Greece/ Parents of Albanian origin arrested

A five-month-old baby has been found dead on the Greek island of Paros. Greek authorities are investigating conflicting witness reports about the circumstances in which the baby, whose parents are a couple of Albanian origin who had lived on the island for years, died.

They left the baby sleeping inside a parked car while they were swimming at Parasporos beach with their other children.

The baby was brought to the island's Health Center unconscious on Sunday afternoon by her mother. According to the Center's director, the baby had no pulse, dilated pupils and was not showing signs of breathing. Despite CPR attempts, doctors were unable to revive the child.

According to a local resident who spoke to Star TV, the couple had four children in total. During the trip to the beach, the baby reportedly fell asleep in the car seat. Believing it was best not to disturb him, the parents allegedly left the baby inside the vehicle while they swam nearby.

After the child's death, doctors immediately notified the police. Both parents were arrested and face charges of exposing a minor to fatal danger. Their testimonies appear inconsistent: the father claimed to have brought the baby to the beach, while the mother said they had left him in the car "for a while" to rest.

The couple are being held in custody and are expected to appear before the Syros prosecutor. Meanwhile, the local community remains shaken by the tragedy, with investigations continuing to determine the exact cause and timeline of the baby's death./CNA
