Road safety during the tourist season/ 16 arrested and 1600 fines in Vlora

Controls are intensified during the first 10 days of June, 16 drivers are arrested/criminally prosecuted and over 1,600 administrative measures are imposed for various violations of the Highway Code.

As part of measures to increase road safety and manage traffic flow in tourist areas, the Road Traffic structures in Vlora and Saranda have intensified controls on the main urban and interurban axes, during the first 10 days of June.

The controls are focused on preventing violations that pose a risk to the lives of road users, as well as ensuring a safe environment for citizens and visitors who frequent the coast.

As a result of the checks, a total of 16 drivers were arrested/prosecuted for various violations of the Highway Code.

Also, 1683 administrative measures have been imposed for violations such as: speeding, wrong overtaking, failure to wear a seat belt, using a mobile phone while driving, failure to wear a protective helmet by motor vehicle drivers, driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as other violations contrary to the provisions of the Road Code.

Traffic Police structures will continue increased controls throughout the summer season, throughout the Vlora region, with the aim of increasing road safety parameters. /CNA
