Arrests of opposition protesters / Tirana Police provide details

Tirana Police have shared details of the reported arrest of four people in connection with the national opposition protest.

The following citizens were arrested: LM, 20 years old, RD, 33 years old, DR, 21 years old, and SR, 36 years old.

They are suspected of the criminal offenses of "Strikes due to duty", "Disturbing public peace", "Violation of rules on explosives and flammable substances", "Destruction of property by fire" and "Opposing a public order officer".

In connection with the protest organized yesterday afternoon, on 28.02.2026, at 18:00, called by the political entity Democratic Party, the Serious Crimes Investigation Sector, following investigative and procedural actions, arrested the following citizens:

LM, 20 years old, RD, 33 years old, DR, 21 years old and SR, 36 years old, for the criminal offenses "Strikes due to duty", "Disturbing public peace", "Violation of rules on explosives and flammable substances", "Destruction of property by fire" and "Opposition of a public order officer".

From the investigative actions carried out, it is suspected that these citizens, during the protest, have committed violent acts, have opposed police officers, and have thrown pyrotechnics and Molotov cocktails at police officers and Villa 31, at the moment when there were people inside its premises, foreign citizens, endangering their safety. As a result, damage was caused to this building, as well as 32 garbage bins placed by the Municipality of Tirana.

As material evidence, discarded objects and items (Molotov cocktails and pyrotechnics) were seized, which were sent for further forensic examination.

Furthermore, a 16-year-old minor citizen was released after ammunition suspected of being a sporting weapon was found on him.

The materials were also referred to the Special Prosecutor's Office against Corruption and Organized Crime, for citizen KB, MP, for violating Law No. 9754, dated 14.06.2007 "On the Criminal Liability of Legal Persons" and for the criminal offense "Organizing and participating in illegal gatherings and demonstrations".

Additionally, video footage of the protest has been administered and is being reviewed to identify other persons involved in criminal activity.

The procedural materials will be passed on to the Prosecutor's Office for further action. /CNA
