Zelensky: A large number of soldiers from North Korea lost their lives in the Kursk region

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the fighting in the Kursk region has caused heavy losses to the forces sent by North Korea to help the Russian army.

"Just near the village of Mahovka, in that region, in recent days the Russian army lost an entire battalion of soldiers from North Korea, as well as members of Russian paramilitary units,"  Zelensky asserted in his speech.

He did not specify the number of soldiers, but a battalion usually consists of about 1,000 soldiers.

In August last year, Ukrainian forces made a surprise incursion into Russia's Kursk region, taking control of a number of settlements in the area.

As part of the agreement between Moscow and Pyongyang, several thousand North Korean soldiers were sent to reinforce Russian forces at the front.
