Bad weather/ Transport in Germany is paralyzed, flights are cancelled

Due to the bad weather, with snow and rain, 120 flights out of 1,090 that were planned in total were canceled at Germany's busiest airport in Frankfurt.

The news was announced by a spokesperson of the airport operator.

"Since the runways need to be cleared, the capacity of the airport is limited. In addition, de-icing of aircraft is taking longer due to weather conditions," he added.

The spokesman advised passengers to check with their airline about their flights and if necessary, allow extra time for travel to the airport.

Due to the snow and ice, even at the Munich airport, travel has been suspended.

According to the airport's website, some flights scheduled to depart in the morning have been cancelled.

"The airlines have already taken the decision to cancel flights last night as a precaution. Currently, one runway has been kept open while the other is being cleared. Reduced visibility due to snowfall has led to longer intervals between take-offs and landings, while planes also have to take off, the airport spokesman said among other things.

It was initially unclear how long the weather-related restrictions would last.
