Montenegro, tribute to the 12 victims of the gun attack on New Year's Day

Tributes were held today in Cetinje, Montenegro, for the 12 people who were killed during an attack on New Year's Day.

Photographs of the victims of the attack were placed in the town hall, while their relatives and Montenegrin officials participated in the tribute.

On Friday, Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spaji? announced a new draft law that tightens measures on the possession of weapons.

Mr. Spaji? announced that individuals who have weapons with a permit will be subject to a background and psychological check while he warned of an extremely harsh punishment for those who carry weapons illegally.

The victims of the attack in the western city of Cetinje were 7 men, three women and two children, born in 2011 and 2016.

Police said the perpetrator, identified as Aco Martinovi?, likely shot himself in the head and died.

4 other people who were seriously injured continue to receive hospital treatment. Montenegro has a deep-rooted culture of carrying weapons.

State television RTCG reported that Montenegro is the 6th country in the world in terms of the number of illegal weapons per capita./ VOA
