Russia launches deadly attack in Kiev

A Russian drone strike in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, has killed one person and wounded four others, local officials said.

Moscow's forces - which launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 - have escalated airstrikes across Ukraine since the first weeks of the winter season, including New Year's Day attacks in Kiev that killed two persons.

"One person was killed and four others were injured during an enemy airstrike in the Kyiv region," said Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv region.

He said a truck driver was killed after being hit by shrapnel from a downed Russian drone.

Pieces of the drone also fell on a house, injuring three people, including a 16-year-old boy.

The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia launched 93 drones overnight. The military said it shot down the drones or intercepted them through electronic devices.

Authorities said that fragments of drones fell in two districts in Kiev, but no injuries were reported./REL
