Chaos in Germany/Airports hit by IT outage

Airports across Germany have been hit by an IT outage that has caused major delays for non-Schengen arrivals.

The outage affected federal police systems used to check arriving passengers, Bild newspaper reported on Friday, citing police.

Federal police were not immediately available for comment and the cause of the outage is not yet known.

The report claimed that police are performing security checks manually, increasing waiting times at Frankfurt and Düsseldorf airports.

German broadcaster WDR said passengers at Dusseldorf Airport were forced to wait at least two hours while others were kept on the plane.

According to the airport, both the main and backup systems are affected and it is unknown how long it will take to fix.
