At least 30 killed by Israeli attacks in Gaza

At least 30 people, including children, have been killed in Gaza by Israeli strikes carried out during the night and morning of January 3, hospital officials said.

Al-Aqsa Martyrs hospital staff said women and children were among those killed in airstrikes that hit several locations in central Gaza, including Nuseirat, Zavaida, Magazi and Deir al Bala. Even the day before, there were victims from the attacks, making the number of those killed in 24 hours reach 56.

The Israeli military has not commented on the recent airstrikes. However, in a statement on Friday it said that during the previous day it had attacked dozens of checkpoints and command centers of Hamas - the Palestinian group designated a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union - across Gaza, from where it said Hamas was planning to carried out attacks. The Israeli military said it had taken measures to minimize damage to civilians, using precision munitions and aerial surveillance technology.

As the war in Gaza continues, talks on reaching a ceasefire are expected to resume on Friday.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said it has authorized a delegation from the Mossad intelligence agency, the Shin Bet internal security agency and the military to continue negotiations in Qatar.

The US-led talks have repeatedly stalled during the 15-month war, which was sparked after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023. Hamas killed nearly 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapped nearly 250 others. Close to 100 hostages are still inside Gaza and at least a third of them are believed to be dead.

Israel's retaliatory offensive has left more than 45,500 Palestinians dead in Gaza, according to the territory's Ministry of Health. This ministry says that more than half of the victims are women and children./ Rel
