Zelensky: Russian peace memorandum contradicts Ukrainian Constitution

The Russian side deliberately drafted its "peace proposal" in a way that contradicts both the Ukrainian Constitution and international law, making it impossible for Ukraine to implement it.

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated this in an interview with the American television channel Newsmax, as reported by Ukrainian media.

"Russia wrote a so-called proposal and they clearly understand: everything written there contradicts the Constitution of Ukraine, our law, international law and the will of the Ukrainian people. They did not write it for us to accept," the President said.

Zelensky stressed that anyone who truly wants to end a war seeks compromise, but instead, the Russians issued an ultimatum, the same kind as in 2022.

"It is an ultimatum designed in such a way that Ukraine can never fulfill it," the president stressed.

At the same time, Zelensky emphasized that Russia is the aggressor, that they came there and it should have been the whole world that issued them ultimatums.

He described Ukraine's willingness to negotiate with the Russian delegation as, in itself, a major concession and act of compromise.

Zelensky said that Russia has historically tried to destroy Ukrainians and their identity. /CNA
