Poland says Russian plane violated its airspace

British fighter jets took to the skies to intercept a Russian surveillance plane that violated Polish airspace over the Baltic, Poland's military said on June 13.

"Another interception of a Russian aircraft over the Baltic Sea, this time by two British fighter jets," the Polish Ministry of Defense wrote on X.

A Russian IL-20 aircraft entered two kilometers into Polish airspace over the Baltic Sea, the ministry added.

"This is yet another case of provocation to test the readiness systems of NATO countries," said the Polish Defense Ministry.

The two British aircraft intercepted and identified the Russian plane, which then left Polish airspace, the statement said.

In February, Poland reported that a Russian aircraft briefly violated its airspace over the Baltic.

Russian military aircraft often approach Polish airspace, in which they are intercepted by NATO aircraft.

Poland, a member state of NATO and the European Union, is one of Ukraine's closest allies and serves as an important logistical hub for Western military aid to Kiev./ Rel
