Lucky passenger in seat 11A/ One person survives plane crash in India

Ramesh Vishwaskumar Bucharvada, who was among the 242 people on board the ill-fated Air India flight AI171 that crashed today, miraculously survived the accident. Ramesh, 38, was sitting in seat 11A on the flight that crashed near Ahmedabad airport on Thursday afternoon, killing more than 200 people.

A video filmed moments after the crash shows an injured Ramesh walking towards an ambulance as passersby surround him, asking him questions about the fate of others on the plane.

Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik said one passenger survived the Air India plane crash, news agency ANI reported.

"Police found one survivor at site 11A. One survivor has been found in hospital and is undergoing treatment. We cannot say anything about the death toll yet. The death toll may rise as the flight crashed in a residential area," Malik said.

According to Aerolopa, an online repository of airplane seat plans, seat 11A on Air India's Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner is located in the first row of the economy class cabin. The window seat is located on the right side of the plane and is two rows in front of the wings of the plane. /CNA
