Zelensky demands criminal trial of President Putin for invasion of Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for the prosecution of Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom he accused of being a "war criminal" for launching Russia's attack on Ukraine.

Zelensky made the call after signing an agreement with the Council of Europe to set up a special court to prosecute Russian officials, including Putin, for the invasion of Ukraine.

"It will take strong political and legal courage to ensure that every Russian war criminal faces justice, including Putin," Zelensky said.

There is an arrest warrant for President Putin issued by the International Criminal Court in The Hague for the alleged war crime of illegally transporting children out of Ukraine.

The special tribunal is being created to prosecute Russia's aggression for its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022./CNA
