Breaking down of Sky Ecc and Encrochat/ 58 arrests are wanted, the prosecutor:

Brussels' criminal court sentenced 119 people on Tuesday as part of the "Encro" trial, one of Belgium's biggest drug cases, with sentences of up to 17 years in prison and massive confiscations.

The Encro trial is about a major criminal organization dismantled thanks to a police crackdown following the crackdown on Encrochat chats in 2020 and Sky ECC 2021.

124 defendants and four companies were tried in what constitutes one of the largest criminal trials ever staged in Belgium. 115 individuals and the four companies were found guilty of various charges ranging from participation in a criminal organization, drug and arms trafficking, attempted extortion to kidnapping. Imprisonment sentences range from 14 months to 17 years.

In total, the Brussels criminal court handed down around 700 years of cumulative imprisonment and ordered the confiscation of around 60 million euros, not counting the bonds that will remain in the hands of the courts. This is unheard of and this is what makes this case today the most serious in the history of Belgian justice.

58 immediate arrests

The immediate arrests sought concern no fewer than 58 people. The prosecutor believes that these 58 people risk escaping or committing the criminal offense again. The court finally ordered 49 immediate arrests out of 58 requested by the prosecutor.

The ordered confiscations amount to 65 million euros. This is part of the profits made by traffickers when they sell cocaine and cannabis in Europe, but these profits are often reinvested in real estate, especially abroad./ CNA
