Russia sanctions hundreds of Australian and New Zealand citizens

Russia's Foreign Ministry has sanctioned 131 Australian citizens on Tuesday, banning them from entering Russian soil.

The list includes the names of representatives of the defense industry, journalists and public figures whom Russia accuses of promoting the "anti-Russian agenda".

The sanctions are a direct response to measures taken by Australia some time ago against Russian individuals and entities.

Among those sanctioned are the co-head of the Ukrainian Union Organization in Australia and employees of companies such as Electro Optic Systems and Micro-X.

In addition to them, Russia has also sanctioned nine New Zealand officials.

Those sanctioned are members of the Ministry of Defense, including three deputy ministers.

Since the start of Russia's war in Ukraine, Australia has sanctioned more than 1,000 Russian citizens and companies, and this trend has also been seen in New Zealand.

The war in Ukraine started on February 24, 2022.

Russian President Vladimir Putin calls the war a "special military operation" to demilitarize Ukraine.

The West has responded to Russia, hitting the economy of this country with harsh sanctions.

As a result of the war, thousands of people have died and millions more have been displaced from their homes./REL
