The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has arrived in Iceland on Monday, to participate in a summit with the leaders of the Nordic countries.

Zelensky wrote on Telegram on Monday that in Iceland he will attend the fourth summit between Ukraine and Northern Europe, as well as hold meetings with the prime ministers of Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Sweden.

He also intends to meet with the president and representatives of the Icelandic Parliament.

"We will focus the talks on support for the Victory Plan and the areas where our cooperation can produce maximum results: financing the production of Ukrainian weapons and long-range weapons; preparations for winter; maritime security; measures against the Russian fleet, as well as support for the defense of Ukraine and training and equipment for Ukrainian soldiers," Zelensky said.

Iceland's parliament in April passed a resolution on supporting Ukraine until 2028, including independence, sovereignty of Ukraine, as well as security of the civilian population, humanitarian aid and reconstruction.

Iceland also allocated nearly 2 million euros to a Czech initiative to buy artillery shells for Ukraine.

Earlier this month, Zelensky unveiled Kiev's "Victory Plan" to Western leaders, which he hopes will force Russia to end its occupation of Ukraine through talks.

That plan is being reviewed by Ukraine's Western partners, whose support has been vital to Kiev's efforts to confront its larger neighbor.

A key point in the plan is the request for a formal invitation for Ukraine to become a member of NATO, which Western backers have been reluctant to consider until the war is over./REL
