UN: World far from target to combat climate change

More than 43,000 Palestinians, more than half women and children, have been killed so far in the year-long war in the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said Monday.
This figure also includes the 96 dead who were taken to hospitals in Gaza in the last two days, said the Ministry, which is led by Hamas, the Palestinian group declared a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union.
The Israeli army has carried out an operation in the north of Gaza, including against a hospital, during this weekend. The army said it arrested 100 suspected Hamas militants during a raid on the Hamal Adwan hospital in Beit Lahiya on Friday.
The World Health Organization accused Israel of arresting 44 male hospital staff members.
Palestinian medical officials said the hospital, where about 200 patients were being treated, was heavily damaged in the attack.
Israel has attacked several hospitals in Gaza during the year-long war, saying Hamas and other militias use them for military purposes. Palestinian medical officials deny the allegations and accuse the army of endangering civilians.
The Israeli army has called on Palestinians to leave northern Gaza, where it has been conducting a major offensive for three weeks.
The UN said earlier this month that at least 400,000 people are in northern Gaza and that the hunger crisis has increased as humanitarian aid has dwindled in the past month.
Gaza's Health Ministry said at least 43,020 people have been killed and 101,110 wounded since the war began on October 7, 2023. It did not say how many were civilians and how many were militants.
The war between Israel and Hamas began after Hamas militants broke through border barriers in southern Israel and rushed across the border, killing around 1,200 people - mostly civilians - and kidnapping 250 others./ REL
