Israeli army kills key Hamas gunsmith

A key weapons maker and other Hamas fighters were killed in airstrikes in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, Israel's military said.

The Israeli army continued its offensive against the militant group's vast network of tunnels under the besieged Palestinian enclave.

Gaza City, the militant group's main stronghold in the territory, has been surrounded by Israeli forces. The army said it has entered the center of the densely populated city.

The Israeli military said in a statement that in two separate attacks it killed a senior Hamas gunner, Mahsein Abu Zina, and other fighters.

Israel has bombarded Gaza relentlessly from the air and on the ground, and has split the coastal enclave in two, after Hamas attacked towns in southern Israel on October 7, in which its militants killed more than 1,400 people and kidnapped around 240 others.

Israeli bombing has killed more than 10,000 Palestinians, about 40 percent of them children, over the past month, according to the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry.

Israel says 32 of its soldiers have been killed in the fighting.

Israel's Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, said that Israel has "only one target - Hamas terrorists in Gaza, their infrastructure, commands, bunkers and communication centers".
