The chief negotiators of Kosovo and Serbia will meet next week in Brussels

The chief negotiators of Kosovo and Serbia are meeting next week in Brussels, within the ongoing discussions and diplomatic diplomacy for the normalization of relations between the two countries. The new round of dialogue, at the level of chief negotiators in Brussels, comes after the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vu?i?, held separate meetings in Brussels on October 26, with the leaders of the EU, the President of France, the Chancellor of Germany and the prime minister of Italy. Scholz, Macron and Meloni asked Kosovo to form the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian majority, while Serbia recognized the de facto independence of Kosovo.

Lajçak positively evaluates the meetings held in Kosovo

The European Union envoy for dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, was in Kosovo for two days, Monday and until late Tuesday, where he had busy meetings with representatives of the government, those of international civil and military institutions, ambassadors of Western countries and representatives of opposition political parties. "I had a very productive day in Kosovo with good exchanges on the latest developments in the EU-facilitated dialogue and the way forward. I thank all my interlocutors for their active role and support," wrote Miroslav Lajçak, also publishing photos from each meeting.

The draft of the Association's statute, which has already been submitted to the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has not been made public, and some of the representatives of the opposition parties, although they were in a meeting with Lajçak, are looking for more details about the content of the draft statute.

Reactions from the opposition in Kosovo

The only one who said after the meeting that he had read the draft, was the chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, who said that he will make his position on the Association public after its review by the Constitutional Court of Kosovo.

And the chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, the largest opposition party, Memli Krasniqi, said that his concerns "continue to be present, because he is not informed about the details of the draft. "As one expression says, I am saying that it is international, damn it it's hidden in the details. We need to see the details of the text to be sure that the establishment of the Association will not change the unitary character of our state for the worse", said Memli Krasniqi.

The Vice-President of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lutfi Haziri, meanwhile, said that "it is a matter of keeping the process for themselves, and of course a confirmed yes from Kosovo was also said by Mr. Lajçak that Kosovo has accepted both the plan and the sequencing and implementation of the agreement and the entire European model and now it is a question that the process will develop". According to him, there is not much time and he dare not lose this moment, warning that as LDK, we are "careful to become guardians of the principles of dialogue" . The only leader of the opposition who said that he has read the draft European statute for the Association was the chairman of AAK, Ramush Haradinaj, revealing very few details.

"It is understood that every time it refers to the Constitution and the laws of Kosovo. In this draft, the responsibilities of the municipalities do not change, the Association does not take on these responsibilities, but the facilities created for education, health, operation and other opportunities provided by the Association are also complete. ", said Haradinaj.

After the October 26 meeting in Brussels with the main European leaders, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said that "he was ready to sign the project for the Association. On the other hand, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vu?i?, has described the proposal for the Association as a basis of good for the continuation of the discussions, but he has clearly emphasized several times that "he will not accept anything that leads to the recognition of Kosovo's independence", despite the international request./ DW
