Lajçak in Pristina for the draft statute of the Association

The envoy of the European Union for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, said that there is an agreement with the Kosovar authorities on the next steps on the way to the normalization of relations with Serbia. Lajçak, came to Pristina late last night, met the Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi who is also the chief negotiator of Kosovo in the dialogue. While on Tuesday, he will hold meetings with other Kosovar authorities, including the leaders of the opposition political parties. Lajçak did not give other details about what steps he agreed with the Kosovar authorities.

"I just met with the first deputy prime minister, Besnik Bislimi, to discuss in the wake of the last meeting with the European leaders in Brussels and the need for the full implementation of the Agreement on the Normalization Path without delays and preconditions. We also agreed on the next steps ", Lajçak wrote on the X platform.

The Government of Kosovo, through the announcement after the Bislimi-Lajçak meeting, said that "it is committed to the full normalization of relations with Serbia and to mutual recognition", adding that "all aspects related to the full implementation of Basic Agreement of Brussels and Implementing Annex of Ohrid".

On the other hand, the Serbian authorities said on Monday that the official Pristina has rejected an invitation for a meeting between the chief negotiators that was supposed to be held this Tuesday in Brussels. The Government of Kosovo did not comment on these statements.

Lajcak's visit to Kosovo is in the wake of the efforts of Western countries to push Kosovo and Serbia to implement the agreement reached this year in Brussels and Ohrid in North Macedonia. The leaders of the most powerful European states, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Georgina Meloni, have said in a joint statement that "Kosovo should establish the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian majority, while Serbia recognize the "de facto" independence of Kosovo./ DW
