Soldiers return from fighting in Russia/ Grand ceremony in North Korea,

North Korea held a grand ceremony for soldiers returning from fighting in Russia, with nine of them reportedly killed in the fighting. 

Video from state broadcaster KRT showed North Korean leader Kim Jong Un hugging soldiers, as well as placing a white flower in front of portraits of the nine who died in the fighting.

The event took place in a giant building near the center of North Korea's capital, Pyongyang, called the April 25th House of Culture.

The building's name refers to its founding date, which North Korea's official history says was when its first leader Kim Il Sung started a militia to fight the Japanese occupation of Korea.

Last month, Russia's Defense Ministry said that North Korean troops who helped Russia repel a major Ukrainian incursion into its western Kursk region are now playing a significant role in clearing the area of ??mines.

Under a mutual defense pact between the two countries, North Korea last year sent about 14,000 soldiers to fight alongside Russia at Kursk, and more than 6,000 casualties occurred, according to South Korean, Ukrainian and Western sources.
