Ukraine and Russia exchange drone strikes

Russia has said it has shot down about 60 drones and several missiles over its territory, while Ukraine has said it has destroyed more than 30 Russian drones.

At least four people were reported killed in a Russian attack on the outskirts of Kharkiv on Sunday, as Russia advances its offensive in northeastern Ukraine.

"Russian air defense shot down 57 Ukrainian drones over the southern Krasnodar region overnight," the Russian Ministry of Defense said.

Local military officials said several drones crashed at an oil refinery in the town of Slavyansk-on-Kuban, but no damage was reported.

Three other drones are said to have crashed in Russia's Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine. In Ukraine, air force officials said air defenses shot down 37 Russian drones launched against the state overnight.

In the northeastern region of Kharkiv, where Moscow has launched the new offensive, the regional governor, Oleh Syniehubov, said that one person was killed and 11 others were injured as a result of the attacks a day earlier.

Later on Sunday, Syniehubov said that four more people were killed and eight others were injured as a result of Russian attacks in the Kharkiv area.

Ukrainian troops are fighting to disable Russian advances in the Kharkiv region. Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that Moscow's offensive in the Kharkiv region is aimed at creating a neutral zone and that there are no plans to capture the city.

The war in Ukraine started on February 24, 2022.

Putin calls the war a "special military operation" to demilitarize Ukraine.

The West has responded to Russia, hitting the economy of this country with harsh sanctions.
