Trump denies financial incentives to Iran for civilian nuclear program

US President Donald Trump has dismissed reports that his administration has discussed helping Iran access up to $30 billion in funding to develop a nuclear program for peaceful energy purposes.

Several US media outlets reported that the Trump administration had in recent days discussed possible financial incentives for Iran in exchange for the country's government halting uranium enrichment. The US media cited sources as saying the information.

"Who in the Fake News Media is saying that President Trump wants to give Iran $30 billion to build a civilian nuclear facility. I have never heard of that ridiculous idea," Trump wrote on 'Social Truth'.

Since April, Iran and the United States have been holding indirect talks aimed at finding a new diplomatic solution to Iran's nuclear program. Tehran says its program is for peaceful purposes. Washington says it wants to ensure that Iran cannot develop a nuclear weapon. /CNA
