Canada imposes tariffs on US companies/Trump breaks off negotiations

United States President Donald Trump has announced that all trade talks with Canada have been suspended.

This decision came after Trump wrote that Canada has imposed digital services taxes on American technology companies.

Trump calls this an open and direct attack on the United States.

Further, the US president writes that within a week Canada will be notified of the tariffs it will pay to do business with the US.

“ We have just been informed that Canada, a very difficult country to TRADE with, including the fact that they have been charging our farmers up to 400% tariffs on dairy products for years, has just announced that they are imposing a digital services tax on our American technology companies, which is a direct and blatant attack on our country. They are clearly copying the European Union, which has done the same thing and is currently in discussions with us. Based on this ugly tax, we are ceasing ALL discussions on trade with Canada, effective immediately. We will be notifying Canada of the tariff it will pay to do business with the United States of America within the next seven days. Thank you for your attention to this matter ,” Trump wrote./ CNA
