On exports and easing restrictions/ US and China sign a trade agreement

The United States and China have reached an agreement to reduce trade tensions.

The two countries have confirmed details of a trade framework aimed at allowing exports of rare metals and easing technological restrictions, according to a statement issued by China's Ministry of Commerce.

China will review and approve export applications for items subject to export control rules, while the US will accordingly cancel a number of existing restrictive measures imposed against Beijing, a ministry spokesman said in the statement, without providing details.

The statement comes after US President Donald Trump said at a White House event on Thursday that an agreement had been signed the day before. A White House official later clarified that the administration and China had agreed to "an additional understanding of a framework to implement the Geneva agreement."

Earlier this month, trade negotiating teams from both sides, led by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, reached an agreement to implement the Geneva consensus after two days of high-level talks in London./CNA
