Sweden's government plans to appoint special investigators to review Sweden's nationality-based residence permit regulations. The new plan aims to make family immigration to Sweden more restrictive and more convenient, reports Schengen.news.info.

Changes to the law were introduced last autumn by the Swedish government to strengthen the conditions for family immigration in several respects. The government considers that the current rules applied in Sweden for family immigration are "more generous" than required under EU law.

Extensive immigration in recent years combined with a lack of integration has brought great challenges.

Among the duties of the investigator are also the review of living conditions and other conditions for the granting of a residence permit due to connections with persons who receive a residence permit in Sweden.

"The starting point for the investigator's work should be a strict regulation that does not go beyond what is required under EU law, but still respects Sweden's international commitments in general. The investigator should also examine the conditions for family immigration for persons who are, for example, Swedish citizens", announced the Swedish government./CNA
