From Sarajevo to Srebrenica/ Marathon commemorating the genocide begins

A convoy of motorcyclists, participating in the "Do not forget and do not repeat" marathon, left on Wednesday from Sarajevo to Srebrenica, where, on July 11, the 29th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks will be commemorated.

This is the 13th such marathon, in which about 1,000 motorcyclists participate and which is dedicated to the anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica.

Motorcyclists come from various countries, including: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Montenegro and Serbia.

They should arrive at the Potoçari Memorial Center on Wednesday afternoon.

The remains of 14 victims of the genocide, who were identified last year, will be buried there on Thursday.

The youngest victim is Beriz (Omer) Mujiq, who at the time of the crime in 1995, was 17 years old, while the oldest victim is Hamed Salliq, then 68 years old.

In Srebrenica and surrounding areas, Bosnian Serb forces killed more than 8,300 Bosniaks in July 1995.

With a decision in 2007, the International Court of Justice in The Hague characterized the crime as genocide.

So far, more than 50 people have been sentenced to more than 700 years in prison for genocide and other crimes in Srebrenica.

In May of this year, the General Assembly of the United Nations declared July 11 the International Day of Remembrance of the Genocide in Srebrenica./REL
