Russia has issued an arrest warrant for Yulia Navalnayan, accusing the exiled opposition figure of participating in an "extremist organization."

A Russian court said it approved "the request of the investigators and decided on preventive measures in the form of detention for two months."

Navalnaya has vowed to continue the work of her husband, Alexei Navalny, the main opponent of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who died in an Arctic prison in February.

Navalnaya reacted to the news of the arrest warrant by saying: “Vladimir Putin is a murderer and a war criminal. He belongs in prison."

Navalnaya "has been arrested [in absentia] for being a member of an extremist community," said Leonid Volkov, Navalny's former chief of staff.

"This is recognition of Yulia's determination to continue Aleksey's fight," he added.

Navalny's organizations are illegal in Russia and are declared "extremist" and are on the state's "terrorism" list.

Navalnaya, an economist, had stood by her husband who organized mass protests in Russia, had been with him even when he left Russia to be treated for poisoning in 2021, knowing that when he returned he would be arrested.

After his death, Navalnaya has vowed to continue her husband's work from abroad./ Rel
