The Social Democrats are on the verge of victory in the Romanian parliamentary

The Social Democratic Party of Romania, currently in power, is on the verge of scoring victory in the parliamentary elections, before starting talks to form a pro-Western coalition.

The Dec. 1 polls were held a week after contested presidential elections in the country, in which a far-right pro-Russian candidate made it to the second round.

The Constitutional Court of this country has ordered the recount of the votes of the first round of the presidential elections.

Residents of Romania - a member of the European Union and NATO - are awaiting the final results, as preliminary results show that the Social Democratic Party (PSD) has more votes than the far-right ultranationalist party, the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians. (AUR).

After counting 99.3 percent of the votes, PSD secured 22.7 percent of the votes, while AUR secured 18.2 percent.

The party that wins the most votes will have the right to nominate the candidate for prime minister.

If no party - as expected - will win the parliamentary majority, then the difficult negotiations for the formation of the Government will begin and everything will also depend on the result of the second round of the presidential elections that will be held next week.

The turnout was 52.36 percent, which means that 9.43 percent of voters exercised their right to vote - the highest figure in the last 12 years.

In this election process, no major irregularities were reported./ Rel
