Kurti: Radoicic, the essence of the problem of attacks in Kosovo
Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, called on the international community to put pressure on Serbia to hand over Milan Radoicic to the Kosovar authorities, saying that the Serbian politician and businessman is the "essential reason" for the attacks that have occurred and may occur in the future in Kosovo.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday in Pristina after an attack on the Ibër-Lepenci canal in northern Kosovo two days ago, Kurti said that "the main problem for my conviction is the fact that Millan Radoiçiqi is not handed over by the Serbian authorities to those of Kosovo".

The Kosovar authorities have issued an arrest warrant and filed an indictment against Radoicic, the former vice-president of the Serbian List, who claimed responsibility for a deadly attack on the Kosovo Police in September 2023.

Kurti said that, if Radoicic was not released in Serbia, it would be "drastically more likely that all these attacks that have happened and future attacks that they are planning will be carried out."

"We ask the international factors to put pressure on Belgrade to hand over the master criminal Radoicic to the institutions of Kosovo. If Serbia has doubts that Radoicic would not have a fair trial in Kosovo, we have EULEX, it monitors all cases in Kosovo. Therefore, he should be handed over to Kosovo", he said.

The attack on Ibër-Lepenci was the third in the last 72 hours in the north of the country, inhabited by a majority of Serbs, after the explosions that occurred in a police station and in the building of the Municipality in Zveçan.

The explosion against the canal in Varragë village of Zubin Potok caused no casualties, but created a large crack in its side wall, causing water to flow out of the canal, causing some parts of the country to face water shortages.

Kosovo has blamed Serbia for this attack, which has been denied by Serbia.

Regular water supply was restored almost a day after the explosion, Kosovo authorities announced on Sunday, while the Kosovo Energy Corporation's supply of water for cooling its thermal power plants was not affected.

Kosovo security authorities arrested eight suspects and confiscated weapons during a wide-ranging operation in northern Kosovo on Saturday in what they said was the heaviest attack on the country's critical infrastructure since the war.

Kurti said Friday's attack on the water channel in the north is linked to attacks that Russia has been carrying out in recent months against Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

"The goal was that a large part of the country was left without water, in the ground, in the cold and without communication. This attack seems to be related to the mass attacks of the Russian Federation against Ukraine", said Kurti.

He showed during the conference a photograph which he said shows the emblems of the military units of the Russian Army confiscated by the Kosovo Police during Saturday's action in the north of the country.

"Dozens of emblems of Russian military units were found. These emblems belong to special Russian units," he added.

The attack on the water channel in the north was condemned by the international community.

The European Union and Germany said it was an act of terrorism.

The spokesperson of the US Department of State, Matthew Miller, said that the United States will provide support in finding and punishing the perpetrators of an attack on the Ibër-Lepenci canal./REL
