Doctors in Gaza: Israeli attacks killed at least 32 Palestinians

According to Palestinian doctors, at least 32 people lost their lives in Gaza from attacks carried out by the Israeli army during the night and early hours of Saturday. Meanwhile, the Israeli military announced that its planes struck Hezbollah arms smuggling sites along Syria's border with Lebanon. The escalation comes as Hamas leaders were expected to arrive in Cairo on Saturday for ceasefire talks with Egyptian officials.

The Israeli military said on Saturday it had killed a Palestinian accused of involvement in the Hamas terror attack on October 7 last year and was investigating reports that the individual was an employee of the aid organization World Central Kitchen. The US-based organization had earlier announced that three of its employees were killed when a civilian car was hit in Khan Younis.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military announced that its planes struck Hezbollah arms smuggling sites along Syria's border with Lebanon. The attack was the latest test of a fragile days-long ceasefire that has halted months of fighting between the sides but has been punctuated by sporadic gunfire. The escalation comes as Hamas leaders were expected to arrive in Cairo on Saturday for ceasefire talks with Egyptian officials.

In Gaza City, residents of the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood returned to clear the rubble and retrieve the bodies of those killed in an Israeli airstrike in the early hours of Saturday.

The airstrike hit an apartment building killing 10 civilians. According to the residents, there lived a family that had moved from Jabaliya and had found shelter in the building.

"There is no safe place. Residents are bombed in their homes, markets, streets, schools. Where should these people go? There is no safe place" , says Mohammed Al-Zaytouniyeh, owner of the apartment hit by the air attack.

Large parts of Gaza have already been reduced to rubble.

"Life is not possible here. It's a hell. In addition to the fact that there are no hospitals to send the wounded, there are no cemeteries for the dead, nor are there people capable of pulling the bodies from the ruins... Gaza is being destroyed ," says Mr. Al-Zaytouniyeh.

According to officials in Gaza, Israel's campaign has killed at least 44,200 people and displaced nearly the entire population at least once.

The war was sparked by Hamas militants, who attacked communities in southern Israel 13 months ago. According to Israeli authorities, they killed 1,200 people and took more than 250 hostages./ VOA
