Iran and European powers agree to continue dialogue

Iran and three European powers have agreed to continue dialogue "in the near future" after the meeting in Geneva, as intelligence officials have warned that Tehran's nuclear proliferation poses a "critical threat".

Negotiators from Iran and the so-called E3 group (Britain, France and Germany) met in Switzerland to discuss a range of issues, including the expansion of Iran's nuclear program, its military support for Russia and conflicts in the Middle East.

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi wrote in X on November 29 that the talks in Switzerland focused on the latest bilateral, regional and international developments, "especially on nuclear issues and the lifting of sanctions".

"We are committed to follow the interests of our people and our preference is the path of dialogue and engagement", he said.

Separately, the spy chiefs of Britain and France have raised the alarm about ties between Iran and Russia and the development of Iran's nuclear program.

The meeting in Geneva was held a week after the International Atomic Energy Agency passed a resolution against Iran.

According to the resolution, this agency is obliged to prepare an "updated and comprehensive" assessment regarding the expansion of Iran's nuclear program, including preliminary and current efforts to develop a nuclear bomb.

In response to the adoption of the resolution, Iran announced that it has begun enriching uranium through thousands of advanced centrifuges it has at its nuclear plants in Fordo and Natanz.

The International Atomic Energy Agency said Iran will enrich uranium to 5 percent purity, even though the country has enriched uranium to 60 percent purity with less advanced centrifuges./ REL
