President Biden pardons his son, Hunter Biden/ Faces criticism from Republicans

Late Sunday evening local time, US President Joe Biden issued a statement of apology to his son Hunter Biden.

Biden's son could face prison terms on charges related to gun possession and tax fraud.

Joe Biden had previously ruled out pardoning his son, but said in a statement that Hunter had been selectively and unfairly persecuted.

Reacting to the news, Hunter Biden issued a statement saying he had "accepted and taken responsibility for his mistakes during the darkest days of his addiction" and that he would not take clemency for granted.

It's common for presidents to issue a series of pardons in the final months of their presidency, but Republicans have reacted particularly negatively to it, calling Biden a "liar" and "corrupt."
