An unusual event happened on the 50th birthday of the Belgian Minister of Justice, Vincent Van Quickenborne.
Three of his guests are accused of urinating on a police car parked outside his house on the night of August 14-15.
Minister Vincent Van Quickenborne appeared before Parliament on Thursday following the opening of an inquiry on 23 August. He told the Belgian parliament that he had not seen three guests at his birthday party urinating on a police van outside his home and apologized for the scandalous incident.
"I would like to apologize to every police officer in the country [...] I fully understand why they are outraged. It is absolutely unacceptable," he told an extraordinary three-hour hearing before MPs in the Commission of Justice.
The affair, dubbed "pee-peegate" by the Belgian media, has put the liberal leader in a difficult position, with some police unions calling on him to resign.
Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, who made a brief appearance at the birthday party, was questioned Thursday by a journalist at a press conference in Brussels about another topic./ CNA
