Corruption scandal/ Ukrainian parliament dismisses two ministers

Ukraine's parliament voted yesterday evening to dismiss two ministers, the justice minister and the energy minister. The dismissals come after a major corruption investigation in the energy sector.

Justice Minister German Galushchenko, who served as Energy Minister from 2021 to 2025, and current Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk submitted their resignations to President Volodymyr Zelensky a few days ago. The two ministers have denied any involvement in the corruption scandal in the country's energy sector.

Investigators suspect a key ally of President Volodymyr Zelensky orchestrated a $100 million bribery scheme to embezzle funds, sparking public outrage at a time when the country is facing widespread power outages due to Russian attacks. Anti-corruption authorities have said their probe also involves other state agencies. /CNA
