Unprecedented situation in the Czech Republic/ Power outage in many areas

A power outage hit parts of the Czech Republic today due to a power outage in some parts of the Czech national electricity grid, grid operator CEPS said.

"A part of the transmission system is without voltage. The incident also affected a larger part of the transmission system substations," the announcement said.

The power outage in the Czech Republic was not felt in the Polish system, a spokesman for Polish grid operator PSE told Reuters.

Rail services on several lines have been disrupted, affecting five of the country's 14 provinces, including Prague, Czech Transport Minister Martin Kupka said in a post on 'X'.

Interior Minister Vit Rakusan told Czech public television that the national emergency council was awaiting an assessment of the extent of the power outage, noting that nearly ten substations had experienced problems. /CNA
