The US is not expected to change its stance on Kiev's use of long-range

The United States does not plan to announce any new policy on Ukraine and its use of long-range missiles on Friday, the White House said.

"There is no change in our position on allowing Ukraine to use long-range missiles inside Russia," White House national security spokesman John Kirby told reporters.

"I don't expect any major announcements in that regard," Mr Kirby said of discussions between US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. President Biden and Prime Minister Starmer will meet at the White House on Friday afternoon.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been asking allies for months to allow Ukraine to use Western missiles, including long-range US ATACMS and British-made Storm Shadows, deep inside Russian territory.

Mr Kirby said Washington took seriously Russian President Vladimir Putin's warning that he would consider the West directly involved in the conflict if Ukraine launched long-range missiles from the West towards Russia. However, he recalled that this was not a new attitude of President Putin.

"This is not rhetoric we haven't heard from him before," Mr Kirby said. "He has clearly demonstrated that he is capable of aggression... so, yes, we take these comments seriously"./ Voa
