France will form a new Government next week

France will have a new Government "next week", said the recently elected Conservative Prime Minister, Michel Barnier, as he is selecting the people who will be ministers in the cabinet he will lead.

"We will do things methodically and seriously," Barnier told reporters, adding that he would listen to "everyone" in the political scene, which is divided into three camps, after the early parliamentary elections that were held held in July.

"We will appoint a Government next week", he said. Barnier has served as Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Foreign Affairs, he was also the former chief negotiator of the European Union during Brexit. Last week French President Emmanuel Macron nominated him as a compromise choice to lead the new executive.

There is no clear majority in the French Parliament, after Macron's decision to dissolve the National Assembly.

The assembly is widely divided between Macron's centrist supporters, who have already formed an alliance with Barnier's conservative party, and the left-wing alliance, the NFP and the far-right National Rally.

The NFP has said it will raise a motion of no confidence against any executive that is not led by them, but this alliance has not managed to create a majority in Parliament.

Until October 1 is the deadline when the Government must present a draft budget for 2025 and Barnier is under pressure to create the governing cabinet./ Rel
