Seoul accuses North Korea of ??jamming GPS signals

North Korea has launched a campaign to jam Global Positioning System (GPS) signals, affecting the operation of ships and aircraft, South Korea's military said on Saturday.

South Korea's General Staff (JCS) advised ships and aircraft operating in the West Sea to be cautious as North Korea is jamming GPS signals.

The JCS called on North Korea to immediately stop its provocations and warned that it will be held accountable for these actions.

GPS is a network of satellites and receivers used for navigation.

Tensions between the Koreas have reignited since late May, when North Korea began launching debris balloons toward the South, prompting South Korea to resume propaganda broadcasts over loudspeakers.

Aviation experts said North Korea's debris balloon campaign, missile launches and now the jamming of GPS signals have increased risks in South Korean airspace, making it difficult for airlines to operate.

The obstacles caused by the balloon campaign are also increased by the increased GPS interference signals.
